From Dream to Reality: Creating Your Life on Purpose

23 Jun From Dream to Reality: Creating Your Life on Purpose

It’s a new age maxim that we create our own reality.  That’s true if we are actively creating the reality we want. But if we’re not, then outside forces create our reality for us – and not always the one we want.

For years people have been asking me how I manage to create a life that I truly love. I’ve written nearly a dozen books, the first few while raising four kids at home, and going through graduate school. The rest were created while having a busy career flying around the world teaching workshops, a dream of mine that combined my love of teaching with my love of travel. Now in my crone years, I have settled into a beautiful property, which I share with the love of my life and feel financially abundant. I’ve got great friends and community and am doing work I love, work that serves the world. What’s my secret?

At first, I had to really think about it. How do I go about creating my reality? Upon reflection however, I realized that I used the map of the chakras from the top down – starting in the highest consciousness I can reach for, then bringing it down through my chakras, step by step into greater density, becoming more specific and more focused with each step.

In fact it’s the steps between the chakras that seem to be most important. It’s the place where most people get hung up.

It would always start with an idea – something I thought about, something that popped into my head during meditation, maybe an idea inspired by something I witnessed or read about. (7th chakra).

Then I would take the idea and form it into an image. I would visualize what I wanted. Precisely. Frequently. In a focused way. (6th chakra)

As the idea germinated in my mind, I would start to talk about it. That would trigger other people’s contributions, their ideas, their questions. I would learn how to talk about it to create the kind of support I wanted and needed, whether it was writing a book proposal, or a simple conversation. (5th chakra).

But I didn’t do any of it alone. Everything came out of a network of relationships. My trusty assistant who’s worked for me for nearly 10 years, my editor at a publishing house, my readers and students, even the people who work in the airports putting foam on my latte. A myriad of relationships contributed to each creation. (4th chakra).

None of this happened by magic alone. It took more than just thinking about it, more than just visualizing, more than just talking to anyone who would listen.

I had to do things. I had to get my will engaged, prioritize endless to-do lists, even do things I didn’t want to do, such as write business plans or do marketing. (3rd chakra).

But as I put all these things into practice, things would start to take shape. I’d see the first sprouts of my efforts—a first draft that someone actually liked, the first reviews of a book or a workshop, a good sales rank on Amazon.

That would make me really passionate, and get my second chakra into the flow of pleasure. The hard work would become fun and a momentum would pick up that had a life of its own. (2nd chakra).

Then finally, I would take it down to the nuts and bolts of the material plane. It might mean finishing a manuscript down to the last detail of a footnote, signing a contract, or making a commitment. It meant focusing, condensing, and completing each task until I could mark it off my list. (1st chakra).

And then I would have a finished form that I could enjoy sharing.

For the last 20 years I’ve been teaching this process of manifesting your dreams through the chakras. It sounds simple enough, but what I find is that the blocks people carry in their chakras keep them from being able to take things down from one step to another. Maybe they have a lot of limiting beliefs. Maybe they have a vicious inner critic whispering in their ear. Maybe they aren’t good at following through with their will, or they don’t know how to make it fun.

When the blocks are removed, creation becomes ecstasy. It’s fun, it’s enlivening, AND it works.

After a year of “practice retirement” during the pandemic, I am going to step out this summer and teach this course live as a seven week journey (and simulcast online). That gives you time to do each step thoroughly. We will have guest teachers, such as Lion Goodman, who co-author of my book, Creating on Purpose. We will have live music from Karen Drucker when we dance down the chakras at the end. We will do dynamic exercises to clear your intention, banish the inner critic, and overcome your obstacles. And we will teach YOU to manifest that life that your heart longs for.

I haven’t taught this in California for over a decade. I don’t know when I’ll do it again. Won’t you join me? You’ll be so happy you did.
